Keel-Billed Toucan Round Cross-Section
Reassembled Ring Teapot
16" tall x 8" wide x 5" deep
I made my first reassembled ring teapot in 1995, and attached a
Keel-Billed Toucan figure to the lid. Unfortunately by accident
I backed over a box containing that teapot with the car while packing
up work from an exhibition, and ruined it. I subsequently made this
teapot to replace the first one, because I love the unusual shape
of this endangered Central American bird's bill, and I wanted to
challenge my skills in modeling, then glazing this colorful animal.
It took as long to make and complete the bird as to make the teapot!
I think it is an improvement over the first broken Keel-Billed Toucan
teapot, which I epoxy-glued together, to study and continue to learn
from.
This teapot is held in a private collection in Aspen, Colorado.
In addition to my unique reassembled ring teapots, my partner Susan Nykiel and I also make a wide range of functional and elegant pottery pieces.
