Silverleaf Bonsai Tree Reassembled
Ring Teapot
12" tall x 17" wide x 7" deep
I have begun naming my teapots after ideas, moods, animals, or
shapes their finished compositions and colors suggest to me, rather
than after their cross-section profile and glaze color. This teapot
has a kind of "Liberty Bell" cross-section, but it floats
like a Japanese bonsai tree, so I gave it that name. For the finial
I added curving plantlike tendrils to the lid just in front of the
handle. I like the way the composition is cantilevered to the right
over the oval base. I think the user would need two hands to pour
tea from this teapot. The glaze is a particularly rich soft lavender
gray color I called "silverleaf."
This teapot is held in a private collection in Redford, Michigan.
In addition to my unique reassembled ring teapots, my partner Susan Nykiel and I also make a wide range of functional and elegant pottery pieces.
