Pink-Green Oval Cross-Section Reassembled
Ring Teapot
13" tall x 13" wide x 5" deep
When I reassembled this oval cross-section ring , I faced all the
cut-out channel surfaces in the same direction, as I had done in
the Blue Channels Teapot. I assembled the fifth arc section as a
brace inside the two arc sections to the left, and placed the section
with the lid and finial into the V joint on the right. I was beginning
to see that I didn't have to reassemble the arc sections end-to-end,
and this was opening up many new sculptural possibilities. I tried
4 or 5 different finials on the lid, and finally settled on the
zigzag lightning bolt as distinctive but not overpowering (I had
not heard of Harry Potter's forehead scar at that time!). I like
this teapot composition very much; it reminds me of Superman's "S"
symbol, or a warrior's shield. I glazed it in pale green covered
with pink. In some places the green comes through, and in some places
the pink dominates. I consider this piece an elegant expression
of my reassembled ring teapot concept.
This teapot is held in a private collection in Brookville, New York.
